Happy Thanksgiving to all the WAC Community!
While many of us have favorite family recipes that we look forward to every year, the Archives and Special Collections team thought we’d share some Thanksgiving recipes from Maryland’s history and our various library collections.
From Fifty Years in a Maryland Kitchen, we have a recipe for Boiled Turkey with Oyster Sauce.
Stuffing, Dressing, or Filling whatever you call it, this “Old Maryland Filling” recipe from the Bomberger Estate “Weldon” in Boonsboro Maryland, is found in Colonial Recipes. It also works well with ham.
To complete the traditional Thanksgiving trifecta, you need cranberry sauce. This cranberry ginger chutney from the Washington College Cookbook compiled by the Women’s League in 1997 is a twist on a classic.
For some, the sides are the best part of the meal, and here we have an acorn squash from Maryland’s Way, a compilation of recipes from all over the state of Maryland and well worth a perusal.
Now for dessert! Here is a recipe for a Ritz Pie from the 1970 Washington College Cookbook. Since it doesn’t specify what type of nuts to use, pecans seem like a great Thanksgiving option.
The best part of Thanksgiving is being with friends and family and taking a moment to enjoy it all. We here at the Archives and Special Collections hope all of you have a great break and we look forward to having you back in Miller Library, well-rested and well-fed.
